According to information relayed by NBC, a man in an army uniform entered the supermarket shortly after 2:30 p.m. (local time) and began shooting at customers.
The shooter was arrested by the police.
Authorities have not released details of the type of weapon used by the assailant.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she was “closely following” the investigation into the shooting and offered assistance to local authorities.
Shootings in public places are a recurring scourge in the United States where the carrying of firearms is poorly regulated. They cause dozens of deaths each year in the country.
