USA/Capitol Assault: The Investigative Committee Promises “Explosive” Revelations

The committee will present the scenarios envisaged by D. Trump to reverse the course of the presidential election of 2020

The committee investigating the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 will present its initial findings in public hearings on Thursday, promising unexpected revelations.

As the group of elected US Congressmen tries to assess Donald Trump’s responsibility for the assault, Democratic panel member Jamie Raskin said at a recent event at Georgetown University in Washington that the hearings “would report explosive facts”.

“No president has ever come close to doing what happened here by trying to stage a domestic coup to overthrow an election and circumvent the constitutional order,” Raskin said.

“And to launch a violent insurgency composed of violent extremist groups, nationalist supremacist and racist, fascist groups in order to support the coup,” he said.

From the first hearing, held at prime time – 8:00 p.m. local Thursday (00:00 GMT Friday) – key witnesses will testify in public for the first time, lawyers will exhibit texts, photographs and videos to review the various scenarios considered by Donald Trump and his entourage, according to the committee, to reverse the course of the presidential election of 2020, until the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The commission, made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans, does not have the power to file charges itself. But she would still have to turn over her evidence to federal prosecutors and can recommend prosecution.
